When two-time and reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano was approached about a health and lifestyle partnership with The Good Feet Store, he wasn’t exactly sure how anything about it would be beneficial.

Now Logano is a brand ambassador for the market-leading manufacturer and retailer of premium, personally fitted arch supports for every foot and lifestyle after signing a multi-year endorsement agreement with the company back in the spring.

He spoke to Beyond the Flag about this partnership and how the company’s technology opened his eyes before agreeing to the deal — and how it has continued to open his eyes since.

“Well actually it came through a friend of mine, whom we’ve worked with through Planet Fitness before, and he had some Good Feet Store opportunities there and thought, ‘oh, this will be interesting’, and kind of told me about it,” Logano said.

“And I thought, man, you know what, I don’t know if I need that – and does this make sense to do? But openly, I said, you know, I’ll go visit a store and see what they have to offer.”

Despite having not initially seen the value in making the visit, Joey Logano quickly learned otherwise.

“At the time, my knees hurt a little bit, my lower back; I thought that was just normal wear and tear type stuff as far as being a race car driver,” he said. “My feet felt fine, so I thought, well, maybe I don’t need it.

“But I went to the store, he gave me the whole rundown on what there is for opportunities and how their inserts would be able to actually help my back and my knees.”

Still a little bit confused about how it all fit together, Logano agreed to try it out.

“I’m like, really? Okay! He also said it would help my balance, and I thought, well, let me see that – so they actually let me stand on the inserts and on the arch supports, and they pushed me over, with them and then without them.

“And my balance was significantly better just by standing on them, and at that point, I was hooked. I was like, wait a minute, there’s like an instant gain, like automatic gain – that didn’t take time!”

Shortly thereafter, the Team Penske NASCAR Cup Series driver became a brand ambassador.

“That’s what kind of hooked me to say, ‘I like this.’ So I got my arch supports and was able to use them for a few weeks and then I started noticing I just started feeling better. … I put them in my regular shoes, and now I’m hooked! Now I have to have them all the time.

“At that point, I thought, okay, this partnership makes sense, because you want to endorse a product that works for you and that’s authentic to what you’re doing, so after all that — and that’s a roundabout story — but that’s kind of how we got to this point.”

What makes this unlikely partnership even more authentic is the fact that Logano hadn’t even heard of the brand before his friend mentioned it to him.

“I was not [familiar with the company],” he admitted. “And I think that the reason why we have the partnership is to try to go out there and talk a little bit more about the opportunities that are there for people to feel better and to have a performance gain like this.

“Honestly, the first thing you think of is maybe older people who have issues with their feet, that it would be catered to them. But to me, the fact that it can help my performance immediately, I was all about it – like, wait a minute, other athletes need to know about this, that they can significantly improve their balance just by putting in arch supports so their shoes are fitted correctly to them.

“That can help them quickly.”

Asked if regular everyday NASCAR fans can take advantage of this technology, he gave clear answer.

“I think so,” he said. “I think there are definitely some long-term benefits that come along with it. If you can take care of your body, I see that: you take care of your body, your body takes care of you. And putting a little time and effort into that every now and again is important.”

As far as effort goes, he admitted that this particular care doesn’t even require all that much.

“This really isn’t that much time or effort that you need to put into it!” he remarked. “You can go to the store, and I was in and out of there in maybe 30 or 40 minutes, all set up, had everything I needed, the whole thing, talked to them about where I was fighting and the issues that I had, and left. That was it.

“There’s not really that much time that you have to invest into it to see a gain, and I’m sure there are gains down the road I’ve yet to see.”
