Joey Logano was glad to see Larry McHugh hasn’t harbored any ill will.
As a kid growing up in Middletown, Logano ran over the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce president’s sprinkler heads while driving go-carts in the neighborhood.
“I’m surprised Larry still likes me,” Logano joked.
Many years and many miles later, McHugh joined a full house in welcoming the 22-year-old NASCAR driver at the chamber’s member breakfast Wednesday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cromwell.
In remarks before a sellout crowd of 500, Logano entertained with stories about his father and growing up racing in Connecticut.
He moved to Georgia with his family when he was 9, but his racing career blossomed (thanks to the support of his father) in Middletown.
“It was my father who allowed me to race,” Logano said. “I couldn’t play any other sport and my father and I learned together. Together we figured it out.”
