Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion, qualified second for this weekend’s CampingWorld.com 500 at Phoenix International Raceway following Friday night’s qualifying session at the one-mile oval. It was Logano’s second-straight second-place qualifying effort. The 24-year-old driver has now qualified first or second in three of the four events this season. Logano’s lap of 25.615 seconds around the Phoenix mile was just 0.038-seconds off the pace of pole sitter Kevin Harvick’s lap.
YOU WERE ABLE TO FIND SPEED OUT THERE TODAY REGARDLESS OF THE HEAT. “Yeah, it is cooling off as qualifying went so we were all waiting at the end trying to get every degree out of the track that we could get to get a little more speed out of our car. I had a decent lap. I had three decent laps to get us through to the last round. I messed up turn one a little the first lap. The second lap of the last run I was able to get a better arc and the car was a little on the tight side and I wasn’t able to beat the 4 car. Overall, that is three straight front-row starts so we are proud of that. Only one pole – that is the part we aren’t proud of. We need to find some more speed there. That is a good starting spot and this place isn’t easy to pass. A lot of strategy will come into play. We will have a good pit stall and that is a good thing. We will be able to race hard and try to win this thing.”
