Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion, overcame a mid-race spin to come all the way back and finish third on Sunday afternoon at Martinsville Speedway. Logano started the race from the pole, his second of the 2015 season and the 10th of his career. At the green flag, Logano jumped out to an early lead, pacing the field for 90 laps early on. Logano’s No. 22 proved to be one of the best cars in the field, never racing outside of the top-three. Logano continued to lead laps and run up front until, on lap 219, while passing a car that stayed out on old tires, Logano was spun as the car got loose on the inside of his Shell-Pennzoil Ford. The spin dropped Logano all the way to 24th. For the rest of the afternoon, Logano would work to fight his way back toward the front. Masterful driving and solid pit work allowed Logano to get back into the top-10 by lap 365 and eventually back into the top five by lap 435. Over the final laps, Logano was able to work his way to third, grabbing his third top-five finish of the year and his sixth-straight top-10 in six races to start the season. Logano remains second in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.

“Our car just wasn’t as fast as those guys up front. We had a decent race car and we recovered from the spin halfway through the race and we worked our way back and slowly but surely got ourselves back in the top three. We didn’t have enough long run speed. I could hang with them a little bit, but it takes everything I’ve got to go their speed and then my stuff just wears out. I gave it all I had from lap one until the end of it and just burned it up and lost too much steam. Overall, it was still a great weekend with a couple poles and a Truck win and an awesome third-place finish here, so overall it was a good weekend.”
