The current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point leader, Joey Logano, led the Team Penske charge in qualifying on Thursday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway and will start Saturday’s 500-mile event in the 13th position. The driver of the No. 22 Pennzoil Platinum Ford Fusion just missed making the final round of knockout qualifying by .002 seconds.

Logano turned the fourth-best lap in the first round of qualifying. However, in the second round, Logano’s lap of 27.483 seconds around the 1.5-mile track just missed making the cut to advance to the final round.

“We are going to be alright in the race,” said Logano. “We just got a little loose in the second round of qualifying and when you go back out a third time, there is just too many cycles on your times and it’s hard to go even faster. This track is very much on the razor’s edge. It takes just a small mistake or the car being just a little bit off to lose some time. It’s fine though. We can see the front of the field and the car was good in race trim. We’ve got two practices tomorrow to figure it out. We will be alright.”

The Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway will air live Saturday night, October 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90.
