THE NEWS & NOTES
  • A TOUGH WEEKEND:Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil team couldn’t get out of Kansas fast enough. The 22-year-old driver entered Kansas ranked ninth in the point standings. However, following a NASCAR-issued penalty and a disappointing 39th-place finish after being involved in an accident with the No. 18 car of Kyle Busch just 100 laps into the race, Logano now finds himself 20th in the standings. Despite the ranking, Logano is only 53 points outside of the top 10.
  • A LITTLE SPONSOR LOVE: This week will mark the annual Penske Racing Sponsor Summit and Logano and his fellow Penske drivers will get a little chance to shine on the links. As part of the sponsor summit, the drivers will play golf with those in attendance on Wednesday.
  • TIME TO TURN IT AROUND AT RICHMOND: Richmond International Raceway will be the perfect place to turn things back around for Logano and grab his first win of the 2013 season. Logano’s best career finish at Richmond came in the fall race of 2010, when he finished fourth. He has qualified in the top-10 in three of the last five races at Richmond. He has earned three top-10s in for starts at Richmond in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

THE Q&A

HAS YOUR FOCUSED CHANGED AFTER THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS?

“Most definitely not. We are going out there week after week trying to win races. If we win races, the points will take care of themselves. We just have to keep doing what we have been doing all year long, which is bringing fast racecars to the track and running up front. Kansas was the first weekend where we struggled a little bit with our speed, but we would have been able to make the most out of it at the end of the day had we not gotten caught up in that wreck with Kyle (Busch). Everyone is going to have a bad day. We just got ours out of the way already.”

DO YOU LIKE SATURDAY NIGHT RACES?

“I think all of us like Saturday night races. That is what we all grew up doing – racing at our local track on a Saturday night. There is something really cool about seeing our cars racing around the track under the lights. It’s great on TV and it’s even better in person. On top of that, it gives you a Sunday at home, which is rare for us. So yeah, I think we all love Saturday night short track racing.”
