Joey Logano Captures 13th-Career NASCAR Nationwide Series Win with Dover Triumph.

Post Race Highlights:

  • Joey Logano qualified second in the No. 18 Dollar General Toyota for Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Dover International Speedway, just behind Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Ryan Truex.
  • When the green flew, Logano jumped out to a position he would become familiar with during the afternoon – the lead. During the first stint, Logano led for 42 laps before coming into the pits during the competition caution.
  • After making small adjustments and coming out of the pits second, Logano grabbed the lead once again on the ensuing restart. Logano proceeded to lead the next 106 laps and held onto the top spot during a round of green-flag pit stops where he found himself the only car on the lead lap at one point.
  • Logano lost the lead finally when crew chief Adam Stevens called him to the pits with less than 50 laps to go for four tires and fuel. Logano was the only front-runner to pit and fell back to seventh before the restart on lap 158.
  • Logano, who made his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut at Dover back in 2008, began his charge through the field, getting back up to fifth by lap 165 and into the top-three by lap 178. Logano passed his JGR teammate Brian Scott for second on lap 185 and set his sights on leader Truex.
  • Over the final 15 laps, Logano cut into a near three-second lead and finally caught and passed Truex for the lead with just five laps to go. Logano then pulled away and went on to grab the victory.
  • The win was Logano’s fourth of the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series season, third win in the last four NNS races he’s competed and the 13th victory of career. That moves Logano into 22nd on the all-time wins list and into a tie with Darrell Waltrip and Martin Truex Jr.
  • Logano led a race-high 154 of the 200 laps. It’s the most laps Logano has ever led in a single NASCAR Nationwide Series event.
  • Joe Gibbs Racing swept the top-three positions in the race. Truex finished second in the No. 20 and Scott finished third in the No.11. It’s the first time JGR has swept the top-three positions in a NASCAR Nationwide Series event.
  • The No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota extended its lead in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Owner’s point standings. The No. 18 team now has a 32-point advantage over the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing machine and a 46-point lead over the No. 6 of Roush-Fenway Racing.
  • With the win, Dollar General customers will receive 20-percent off their entire online order at DollarGeneral.com this Monday. Offer is good only online at DollarGeneral.com and only this coming Monday.

Logano’s Post-Race Thoughts:

“What a great Dollar General Toyota we had today. And to finally get a win here at Dover is absolutely amazing. I feel like I’ve been trying to win a race here and had a lot of them slip away from me over the last few years. This time, I thought it was happening again. And our car was too good not to win this race. We had the dominant car out there today and it would have been a shame for me not to get it up to the lead there at the end and get all of the guys on this Dollar General team the win. They worked hard and gave me a great car today and I wanted to pay them back by winning this race.

“It was a pretty intense moment in there trying to catch Ryan (Truex) over those final laps. We came in and took four tires and I was like, ‘oh no, we gave another one away here at Dover.’ But, Adam Stevens (crew chief) and the guys gave me one heck of a Dollar General car that could work our way back up there. And I was running hard but was somewhat patient with it. Ryan got caught up with the lapped traffic and I had a big run and got on the outside. He got really lose there at the end of the run and he was trying hard to win that race. He did a great job. My hats off to him. He really ran a great race today. I wanted to win this race and I’m glad we did, but if I wasn’t going to win it would have been cool to see him win. But we are all racers and we are all out here to do one thing and that is to win and I wanted to get that win for my guys.

“I’m really excited about this win here. It’s been a long time coming. I feel like I’ve lost a lot of them here that was really close to winning them and never been able to win them. To finally get it — it means a lot. And what a day for Joe Gibbs Racing to get the top-three spots. All of the guys in the shop, every guy on every team, has worked hard to get our program back to what it used to be and it showed today. And to get Dollar General another win is huge. Hopefully we can go out and get a few more of these this year.”
